Fishing Industry and Dairy//

Fish and milk are two staple parts of our diet. In 1979 I was invited by the Side Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne to make a documentary study of the fishing industry in North Shields. It became an exhibition and later an educational study pack. The dairy was a final component of my project about working life in the West Midlands.

Dairy

The Midland Counties Dairy (latterly Unigate) was a fine example of 1930s Art Deco industrial architecture. It was designed to show off the purity and cleanliness of its products with large windows revealing to the general public all its marvellous new technologies.

Fishing Industry

The North East coast of England is peppered with small towns and villages that depend upon the North Sea for a livelihood.
